According to Celine Dion, she suffered stiff person syndrome and was imprisoned for four years.
The singer said that she refrained from going out after canceling her gigs out of concern that her followers would believe she wasn’t “that sick.”
The 56-year-old Celine discussed receiving a Stiff Person Syndrome diagnosis on Hoda Kotb’s Making Spaces program on Wednesday.
During her 2008 Taking Chances World Tour, she initially displayed symptoms of the disease.
“The load was so heavy,” the music artist remarked.
“I need to tell the world what’s going on and do what I need to do,” I reminded myself. I had documentation of my condition.
“I’m unable to watch my children play golf.” What if those people had said, “But she’s canceling shows because she’s watching her kid,” when they were meant to see me play two years ago? She isn’t actually unwell.
Celine said to us, “I didn’t want people to see me because if they see me, I’m supposed to be fine.”
“If I walk outside, I should be on stage.” This is why I remained inside. Four years inside, that is.
“Four years?” Hoda inquired again, gasping.
Alright. Indeed, Celine stated, “Four years.”
She said that she “insisted” on being with her children.
“It occurs to me occasionally that if I had no children, I would be incredibly alone and things would be harder,” she said.
René-Charles, age 23, and the twins Nelson and Eddy, ages 13, are the youngest of her three children, together with her late spouse René Angélil.
UNIQUE SETTING
Six years after throat cancer claimed René’s life in 2022, she was diagnosed with an uncommon autoimmune and neurological condition.
With time, the illness worsens and causes painful spasms and rigid muscles. Although there is no cure, physical therapy and medication can help manage it.
The singer previously discussed how she informed her children of her condition.
Her children had reportedly “started to notice” that mom could “barely walk,” according to reports.
“Okay, they lost a parent already,” I informed them. “I don’t want them to be scared,” the singer declared.
“You lost your dad, but your mom has a sickness, and it’s not the same,” Celine said to them. I won’t go into cardiac arrest. I will become accustomed to it.
She originally revealed her sickness to the public in a heartfelt Instagram post in December 2022.
The Canadian singer’s health issues forced her to postpone her globe tour.
On June 25, Celine Dion’s brand-new documentary, I Am: Celine Dion, will debut on Prime Video. She discusses her health issues in it.
