The Duke of Sussex, 39, is reportedly feeling a sense of regret for making so many revelations about his estranged family in his bombshell 2023 memoir, “Spare.”
“When you do discover that your sister-in-law has cancer and you’ve written stuff that can’t be retracted, that’s quite a painful place to be in,” royal expert Tessa Dunlop told Us Weekly. “I’m not saying it isn’t.”
Dunlop said that the criticisms made in past years by Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, of the royal family have aged badly now that both the Princess of Wales, 42, and King Charles III, 75, are battling cancer.
“They deliberately criticize the monarchy [and then offer] themselves as an alternative to monarchy. So then when the monarchy is in trouble, we do kind of make a comparison. Can Harry and Meghan really hold themselves off as the caring example now?” she asked.
“They’re certainly going to have to be careful of their timing with any releases so that it doesn’t look opportunistic.”
Dunlop warned that the Sussexes will now have to think twice before making any further revelations about Harry’s relatives.
“When that comes creeping in the door, that just reframes everything,” she added.
Following the release of “Spare” in January 2023, it was said that Middleton was taken aback by the attacks against her and other royals in the book and was not looking to forgive Harry and Meghan for their “public betrayal.”
Royal experts at the time said that Harry “will come to regret” the comments he made about his family.
In the book, Harry left no stone unturned as he dished on Middleton’s fractured relationship with his wife.
Harry offered his side of the infamous dress-fitting set-to between the women of Windsor, which he claimed left Markle “sobbing on the floor.”
“Meg asked if Kate was aware of what was going on right now. With her father. Kate said she was well aware, but the dresses. And the wedding is in four days!” Harry writes in the book.
The rogue royal then stunningly revealed personal text messages exchanged between Markle and Middleton amid the disagreement over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress.
Elsewhere in the protocol-shattering book, Harry recalled a time when Middleton lent the “Suits” actress her lip gloss — but seemed visibly “taken aback” by Markle’s request.
He claimed the Princess of Wales “grimaced” when Meghan squeezed the gloss onto her finger and applied it to her lips.
