Kurtwood Smith, who played Red Forman across both shows, took to Instagram to break the sad news.

But the 81-year-old vowed to ‘shop’ the TV show around, adding: “Good grandparents would try hard to get these kids graduated from high school.”

Posting a photo of himself and co-star Debra Jo Rupp meeting fans, he explained in a lengthy caption: “I know you have been asking me when season 3 is coming, but I have tough news…Netflix will not be renewing.

“I just want to take a minute to say THANK YOU to all of the fans everywhere who supported and watched the show. You have come up to me in random parts of the world when I’m traveling and reached out to me through social media and just been so wonderful.

“I’ve loved every minute of getting to bring Grandpa Red to life for you all.”

Understandably, fans were devastated. Taking to the comments, one wrote: “Nooo I love this show so much! UNIVERSE

PLEASE GIVE THIS SHOW ANOTHER HOME! WE NEED MORE” (sic).

A second agreed: “Let’s all hope someone else will pick it up.”

And a third penned: “Very sad to hear this. That 70s Show has been a favourite since I was 13 (27 now) and I had been loving seeing Red and Kitty be grandparents on That 90s Show. Thank you for bringing us on the Foremans’ next adventure. I will miss you all dearly.”

That 90s Show debuted in January 2023 with 10 episodes. Its second, 16-episode season arrived in two halves this summer.

It starred Callie Haverda as Leia Forman, the teenage daughter of Eric Forman (Topher Grace) and Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon). The show followed her as she spent the summer of 1995 with her grandparents Red and Kitty (Rupp).

The final half of season two failed to reach the Netflix TV charts, meaning they garnered less than 1.9 million views in their opening weekend, less than 1.6m in its first seven days and less than 1.4m in its second week.

The original show starred Smith, Rupp, Grace and Prepon as well as Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Danny Masterson and Wilmer Valderrama.

Netflix users are still raving about a space series two years after its release… meaning it must be pretty damn good.

The Korean-language series dropped on Netflix in December 2021 and, despite its popularity, hasn’t had a second season yet.

But that could all change soon as there’s rumors of more episodes could eventually be in the works.

Titled The Silent Sea, the eight-episode-long series boasts an 80 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes‘ Tomatometer.

The synopsis reads: “During a perilous 24-hour mission on the moon, space explorers try to retrieve samples from an abandoned research facility steeped in classified secrets.

The Silent Sea stars Gong Yoo and Heo Sung-tae, both best known for starring in Squid Gameas well as Sense8 star, Bae Doona.

In recent days, someone took to Netflix Bangers to ask people their thoughts on the two-year-old show, and as quickly met with rave reviews.

The series stars Bae Doona and Gong Yoo.

“Loved it!!” one person said, while another added: “The only great series I can remember.”

A third went on: “It was stunning,” while someone else hailed it as ‘worth watching’.

Others expressed their disappointment that a second series hasn’t been confirmed.

“It was very good. The only bummer was there is no second season for this,” a The Silent Sea fan penned.

“I liked it a lot. It’s a solid sci-fi with a fantastic lead cast in Bae Doona and Gong Yoo,” continued another.

“The supporting cast are great the effects etc. are very good. I was hoping it would get a 2nd season though.”

But this may change as it’s been noted that Netflix referred to the show as ‘season one’ rather than a ‘limited series’, meaning a second season could still happen.

The streamer also hasn’t officially announced that it’s been cancelled.

Netflix are yet to confirm another season of The Silent Sea.

Upon it’s 2021 debut, Squid Games’ Gong Yoo expressed his hopes that The Silent Sea would ‘open the door for potential development’.

“I think that this is a meaningful first step for the specifically Korean space sci-fi genre,” he told Sports Chosun.

“Personally, there are parts that I’m very satisfied with, and I think it was brilliant for a first step.

“Many people watch from different perspectives, but I think of those diverse perspectives as garnering more interest in the drama, so I’m grateful.”

The Silent Sea is currently available to stream on Netflix.

Fans of genre sickened after realizing Netflix has cancelled almost every series within it

Fans of a certain genre have realised Netflix has cancelled almost every show within it

Netflix fans have realised that there’s a genre they feel the streamer has been incredibly harsh to, and once it’s pointed out, it’s kinda hard to unsee.

Now, Netflix cancelling shows isn’t a new phenomenon.

Since the streamer has been around it has been fairly well known that even if it’s a pretty popular pretty well-regarded show, Netflix are ruthless when it comes to cutting the thread on a show.

Whether it be 1899, The Society, or Shadow and Bone, some deeply popular shows have gotten the axe in recent years. Various reasons have been provided for why this may be.

I personally will never forgive Netflix for cancelling The Society (Netflix)

Other than the obvious ones, such as no one watching a show – there are a number of hidden metrics we don’t see when it comes to a show being cancelled.

Yes, your favourite show may have been number 1 on Netflix for a week, but how many people actually finished it? How many extra viewers are they actually getting in after two or so seasons?

These are just two of the numerous hidden metrics which Netflix doesn’t release unless they want to, and they have many.

One of the major factors of a show which appears to be influencing Netflix’s decision to cancel it though?

It being a fantasy show.

Now, obviously Netflix aren’t just cancelling shows purely because they’re fantasy. But when it’s pointed out quite how many on the streamer have cancelled, there has to be some logic behind it.

An account on Twitter dedicated to renewing Shadow and Bone, a Netflix fantasy TV show that adapted a popular book series, posted a graphic which showed the pure number of fantasy shows on the platform to have been cancelled.

They posted the below with the caption: “Netflix either needs to do better, or just stay away from fantasy entirely. This is just ridiculous. The fans deserve better.”

Fans were outraged once it was pointed out, as if this was the final piece of the jigsaw for them to realise what has been going on.

One account replied saying: “It’s still insane to me that they cancelled Dark Crystal. Unforgivable. They won’t even let Henson’s company take the show elsewhere. At this point the only thing that Netflix does well is documentaries.”

Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance was another show that has been cancelled by Netflix, a TV follow up to the classic 80s movie.

Another account tweeted: “The worst part about this is that they have this horrible habit of letting the first season of a show end on a cliffhanger and then cancelling it, meaning there will never be an answer to all the questions left in the story. No resolution. No real ending.”

Netflix’s CEO, Ted Sarandos, has previously said of the streamer’s strategy of cancelling shows: “We have never canceled a successful show. A lot of these shows were well-intended but talk to a very small audience on a very big budget.

“The key to it is you have to be able to talk to a small audience on a small budget and a large audience at a large budget.”

A show on Netflix which was once cancelled has now ended up becoming one of the most-watched on the platform.

Netflix has developed something of a reputation for cancelling series which are much-loved by audiences, sometimes after just one season.

The flip side of this is that these shows often find a new lease of life on the streaming service, sometimes years after their cancellation.

Perhaps the best example of this is a drama that follows a group of people who are on board a flight which goes missing.

After they finally make their way back home the passengers find out that they have been missing for five years.

The series then follows their lives as they try to pick up the pieces and reintegrate into society.

If you haven’t already guess, the show is Manifest, which Netflix commissioned for a fourth season after its cancellation by original broadcaster NBC.

It first aired on NBC in 2018 and ran for three seasons.

But in June 2021 the broadcasting company confirmed that it would not be renewing Manifest for a fourth season, despite this being proposed.

Just a few month later, in August 2021, Netflix bought the rights to the show and renewed it for another season.

And since then Manifest has proved to be a major hit for the streaming-platform, going on to be among its most-watched shows in the world.

A report from Variety in 2022 claimed that the first few episodes of the fourth season totted up a whopping 57.1 million hours viewed in the first three days that they were available to stream.

Manifest finally concluded with its fourth and final season in June 2023, however, fans and critics continue to rave about it.

The fourth season sits at an impressive 88 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Nicole Gallucci, from the Decider, said: “Trust us. Manifest pulls out all the stops in its final batch of episodes to prove itself worthy of surviving its own Death Date back in 2021.”

Meanwhile, Collider’s Jay Snow penned: “Manifest is back and better than ever, fully taking advantage of its new life on Netflix to keep everyone on the edge of their seats until the final moment of this flight.”

While Lauren Piester, from The Wrap, remarked: “Manifest Season 4 will not disappoint fans of the show, though it is likely to break their hearts and/or get those hearts racing.”

The movie in question is called American Gangster, and it is directed by none other than the legend Ridley Scott.

It’s one of Scott’s lesser known films, you can’t help but look at the upcoming Gladiator 2 and wonder if Scott saw Washington and Russell Crowe stood together and went ‘you know what….’

The film came out in 2007 and has a crazy cast even beyond the two big names.

Chiwetel Ejiofor, Josh Brolin, Idris Elba, RZA, Carla Gugino, Cuba Gooding Jr, and Ruby Dee, the cast is top to bottom stacked.

Nominated for two Oscars, the film isn’t exactly a hidden gem of sorts, but when Denzel’s greatest roles are brought up, this often is not in the conversation.

The late great critic Roger Ebert gave the film a perfect four out of four, but had high praise for another member of the cast rather than Denzel.

Washington anchors the movie with aplomb (Universal)

He said in his review: “This is an engrossing story, told smoothly and well, and Russell Crowe’s contribution is enormous (it’s not his fault his wife complains).

“Looking like a care-worn bulldog, his Richie Roberts studies for a law degree, remains inviolate in his ethical standards and just keeps plugging away, building his case.

“The film ends not with a Scarface-style shootout, but with Frank and Richie sitting down for a long, intelligent conversation, written by Zaillian to show two smart men who both know the score.”

Another review, from David Stratton, said: “Best of all, there are top-flight performances from both Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe who create interesting, rounded characters out of potential clichés.”

One thread on the subreddit r/movies debated his best roles, with one commenter pointing to American Gangster.

They said “I somehow slept on American Gangster when it first dropped but finally caught it last year and it was damn good.”

Another said: “American Gangster – IMO the most badass Denzel has ever been”.

American Gangster is available to watch on Netflix in the US now.
